Uranus, Pluto, Who Invited Jupiter To The Party? And Who Said Mars Could Crash It?

Monday, April 21st, 2014

The world-changing square between Uranus and Pluto in Cardinal signs lasts from June of 2012 to March of 2015, and this month its effects are intensified by the addition of Jupiter and Mars, forming a Cardinal Grand Cross (sometimes called a Grand Square) in the sky.  This post is part of a multi-post thread exploring its meanings.  Missed the beginning of this thread?  Start here.

A true “clash of the titans” is happening in the Dreamscape.  The Great Edifice is crumbling (see parts one, two and three of this thread) and Pluto has grappling hooks and rope attached to it.  Uranus arrives in a burst of Aries fire.

Pluto:  How dare you interrupt me?  I was busy bringing down the Great Edifice!
Uranus:  I won’t allow you to unveil corruption unless it benefits the people.  We can work together only if what we do results in a more liberated populace.
Uranus throws a line up and grapples on from a different angle.
Pluto:  Are you telling me that you’re going to try and keep this structure up while I am trying to bring it down?
Uranus:  I am the rebel, after all.
Pluto:  I need to weed out the corruption in the system.
He digs in his heels and begins pulling.  The structure starts to topple.
Uranus:  Corruption does need to end, but I don’t agree with all your methods or your agenda.
He begins pulling too.  The structure rights itself.  Jupiter suddenly appears, in a burst of water like a water balloon exploding.
Jupiter:  Hi, everybody!
Pluto (grumpily):  Why do you always act as if we’ll naturally be glad to see you?
Uranus:  And who invited you to the party anyway?
Jupiter:  I don’t need an invitation.  I’ve stepped in to play the part of the Good Fairy and soften the blow for some people during the big changes you are causing.
Jupiter has brought more rope and a grappling hook of his own.
Jupiter:  This Edifice may fall, but it doesn’t have to crush people.
Pluto:  Are you saying your transits are always good?  Because that’s not what I heard.
Jupiter:  Well, strictly speaking, not exactly. . .
Uranus:  Always the exaggerator!
Jupiter:  Sometimes what I do is magnify whatever’s already happening.
Uranus:  By magnify, do you mean “blow it up?”  Because I’m in Aries, and I love explosives!
Pluto:  You are such a pyromaniac when you’re in Aries.
Jupiter:  I’ve invited a friend who can help us get into agreement about what we’re doing here.  He’s an amazing negotiator.
Mars appears, with his own grappling hook in tow.  He is dressed in a tuxedo, with immaculate hair and . . . white gloves.
Pluto (sarcastically):  Well aren’t YOU looking dapper!
Mars:  Sometimes proper manners and a well-turned phrase are all the offense you need in order to win the day.
Jupiter:  Are you going to kill us with kindness, just because you’re in Libra?
Mars:  Only if I have to.  It’s my firm belief that we can find common ground and negotiate an agreement that’s good for everybody.  And I won’t stand for less.
While talking, Mars has attached his grappling hook to the Edifice and taken up his position opposite Uranus, while Jupiter stands at the fourth wall, opposite Pluto.
Mars:  Now Pluto and Uranus—you don’t easily agree, do you?
Uranus:  That’s an understatement!
Pluto:  True.  But when we do agree, things change rapidly.
Uranus:  No doubt.
Mars:  But you both want evil rooted out and replaced by good, isn’t that so?
Pluto:  Yes, of course.
Uranus:  Naturally.
Mars:  Pluto, you’d like to air the dirty laundry, yes?
Pluto:  That is my area of expertise.
Mars:  Go ahead and do that, because Uranus can help by facilitating some truth-telling on the internet.
Uranus:  I rule the internet and I’m in Aries, so that’s a no-brainer.  Ok, I can line up with that.
Pluto:  I’ve already found the weaknesses in this structure, the fault-lines where the corruption is leaking out—
Uranus:  —And I’ve placed explosives in the cracks and we’ve detonated some.
Mars:  Then you’re well on your way.  Jupiter, how about if you put out some safety nets to catch the people who are sincerely well-intended?
Jupiter:  —You mean the casualties caught in the crossfire, the innocents?
Mars:  Yes exactly.  They need to be protected.
Jupiter:  And they need to be rewarded for using their intuition and getting out of a failing situation in time to save themselves.
Jupiter waves his hand and an elaborate structure of nets and inflatable landing pads appears around the Edifice.  He then reassumes his station at his side of the Edifice, with his rope in hand.
Mars:  Then I’ll just get in position here at my side, with my rope and grapple.  (He does so.)  I’m going to trigger a lot of angry conversations among people involved in this.  Some people are going to have to wake up.  Others will need to back down.  I’m going to fight for peace and equality.
Pluto:  All right then, everyone’s in position?
They all nod.
Pluto:  Here we go!
As each deity pulls, the Edifice begins to crumble and break apart.  Its bright-red interior glows through cracks in its deep, glossy black exterior.  Inside, the faces of human beings can be seen.  Windows in the surface of the Edifice open and people begin jumping out of them.  Some land safely in Jupiter’s nets or on his inflatable pads.  Others hit the ground with a splat and die instantly.  Each person that lands safely is greeted by Jupiter.
Jupiter:  Congratulations, you used your intuition.  You’re safe now.
A small, dazed group of Human Beings is gathering off to the side of the Great Edifice, which is now not so great.  What will be their fate?  Watch for the next post in this series to find out.

Uranus and Pluto Topple The Great Edifice (Part 3)

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Our story began with Pluto and Uranus scaling the Great Edifice—and you might want to begin there too.  Now in November of 2013, our story continues.

Uranus has finished placing small explosives in the tiny cracks Pluto has found on the surface of the Great Edifice.  They are ready for the first explosions that will make way for larger ones to come. Human Being is watching in amazement—they really are going to do this.

Pluto and Uranus stand back.  Uranus pushes the button that ignites the first charge.  In a cascade effect, first one charge, then several near that one, then several more, go off.  A red webbing of fire appears in the Edifice’s shiny black surface.  The cracks widen and send fingers out in every direction.  In the cracks, now glowing red, Human Being can see faces and bodies squirming and writhing in pain.

Human:  Wow, that looks like Rodin’s Gates of Hell.
Pluto:  Thank you!  I am proud of my handiwork.
Human:  I wasn’t exactly praising it.  There are people in there!
Uranus:  It’s true that this Edifice is made up of people, after all.
Pluto:  It’s not just a physical construct.  A lot of people had to agree for this structure to come into being.
Human:  Ah I see, and some benefit from it—
Pluto:   –those will be hit the hardest—
Human:  While others have stood by and allowed it to form, because they didn’t know how to do it any differently.
Uranus:  Those may be ready to have a voice now, and this experience may give them that voice.
Pluto:  But when it comes right down to it, all will have to take responsibility for their interaction with the thing.
Human:  Isn’t it possible that it’s not all bad?  Does it really deserve total destruction?
Uranus:  Of course it isn’t all bad.  There are some true humanitarians in here.
Pluto:  Some mean well, and some even have integrity.
Uranus:  They may not all see the whole picture of the thing.
Pluto:  And when disaster strikes, some will come away untouched, will fall through the cracks, while others are destroyed.
Human:  Is that a matter of luck?  Or fate?
Pluto:  It is a matter of being ready for change, of being able to smell it coming.
Human:  But the other ones, the ones who don’t make it—do they have to die?
Pluto:  No of course not, but they have to change!
Uranus:  Change their minds. . .
Pluto:  Change their hearts. . .
Uranus:  Turn their heads around. . .
Pluto:  Find the darkness in their souls and face it. . .
Uranus:  And now they’re stuck with what they found there.
Pluto:  Are they ready for change?  Who knows?  But they have no choice about it now.

This momentous square between Uranus and Pluto lasts from June of 2012 to March of 2015.  I’ll post about it again as it goes along. Missed the beginning of this thread? Start here.

Chiron Sextiles Pluto: Wholeness in Business

Saturday, October 26th, 2013

Chiron and Pluto meet on a mountaintop.

Pluto: Say, Chiron, I thought we could compare notes on what we’ve been up to this year.
Chiron:  Yeah, that’s why they call this a “summit.”
Pluto:  What?
Chiron:  Never mind. I forgot you have no sense of humor.  So what have you been up to this year?
Pluto:  For a couple of years now, while moving through Capricorn, I’ve been busy pushing people to pursue their ambitions and where people and businesses are unethical, I’ve revealed the corruption.  It hasn’t always been pretty, but I’ve been taking out the garbage.
Chiron:  That’s your specialty.
Pluto:  Yes. What have you been doing since you entered Pisces?
Chiron:  Look at this bridge I’ve built—
Chiron points to a lovely structure that begins on the mountain’s side and juts out into the clouds.
Pluto:  Stunning.  What’s it for?
Chiron:  It connects the physical world with the metaphysical one.  Not everyone is capable of crossing this bridge and even fewer know how to come back.
Pluto:  I know some humans who would be very interested in this bridge.
Chiron:  If they pass your test, they are of high integrity.
Pluto:  True.  And that would qualify them to gain access to spiritual truths and wisdom that they can’t get in the physical world.  Which you show them how to get to.
Chiron:  Right.  Let’s try it.  Got any candidates?
Pluto:  Here are my finest.
Pluto snaps his fingers and a line of Human Beings begins to form, straggling up the mountain.  The first Human looks up every once in a while, straining her eyes for a view of her destination, the beautiful bridge.  She arrives at the summit.
Human Being:  Something inside told me that I should come here, but I don’t know why.
Pluto:  Do you run a business?
Human Being:  I am a CEO, yes.
Pluto:  Do you take responsibility for the well-being of your employees?
Human Being:  That responsibility is theirs, but I provide a pleasant work environment and decent pay.
Pluto:  Does your business offer something to the world that the world needs?  Is it something that builds more than it breaks?
Human Being:  It contributes to people’s lives while destroying none.  I feel good about it.
Pluto:  And is the way you do business in alignment with your core values?
Human Being:  Yes.  It is an expression of my core values.  The founders and owners feel the same.
Pluto:  Then you may pass.
He waves her on.  She steps out to the entry of the bridge, where Chiron stands.
Chiron:  If you continue your business in those ways, I have a gift for you, and a promise.
Human Being:  Oh my!  I had no idea!
Chiron:  The gift is that you will gain access to universal wisdom and deep peace of mind.  Your work/life balance is assured.
Human Being relaxes visibly.
Chiron:  The promise is that, when you reach the end of life and you look back on it all, you will feel that you have lived this life in the right way and you will be satisfied down to your bones.  When you leave your body at the end, the knowledge you gained will be poured into the Universal Coffers where others may partake of it and understand.  Do you see the value of this gift and this promise?
Human Being:  Absolutely I do.
Chiron:  Then go back to your life.  It’s not time for you to cross over yet.  Come back at the end of it all.
Human Being turns and walks silently back down the mountain.
Chiron (to Pluto):  Good candidate.  Got more?
Pluto (gesturing):  There’s a whole line of them here.
Chiron:  We’ll be busy until spring of 2014.
Pluto:  At least!
And so they will, as this harmonious sextile between transformative Pluto and bridge-building Chiron continues through February of 2014.

Strike Now If You Want It To Be Easy–The Water Grand Trine of 2013

Friday, June 28th, 2013

This year going with the flow brings success and fun:
Astrologers are very good at making dire predictions—but what use is that unless they can also tell you when is the BEST time to pursue new ventures?  I’m just the astrologer to let you know that this year, from June of 2013 to June of 2014 is a great time to start a new business or any project you want to go really smoothly.  And that’s because there is a very auspicious alignment of planets building up in the sky.  I’m telling you about it because it’s approaching its peak and I want you to be able to take full advantage of it before it ends.

The alignment is a set of harmonious aspects among five planets:  Saturn, Neptune, Chiron, Jupiter and Pluto.  Each of these planets has at least two harmonious connections going on right now with others of the batch.  This piles goodness upon goodness so that the summer and fall of 2013 is a very lucky and auspicious time for new enterprises of all kinds, and that goodness flows right into the spring of next year.  Most of this harmonious activity is happening in Water signs, with Pluto in an Earth sign connecting nicely with those Water signs and adding some dynamic tension too.

What these planets are up to. . .
Neptune is in Pisces
, a sign it loves to be in, bringing a tremendous sense of flow to this dynamic.  Because Neptune is involved, we have access to oceanic feelings of communion and connection, and our imaginations are fueled.  Our powers of manifestation and “dreaming things real” is at a peak.

Pluto is in Capricorn and Saturn is in Scorpio.  This combination is called a “mutual reception,” as each planet is in the sign the other rules, making them “mutually receptive” to each other’s agendas.  This alignment is all about power, purging corruption, doing the hard work of vulnerable leadership, and living each moment as if it was your last.  I’ve written more about it here.

Chiron the Wounded Healer is in Pisces, bridging the gap between material and spiritual worlds, carrying information from the physical to the metaphysical planes and back again.  You can take advantage of this through prayer, manifestation and other practices that get you into alignment with your spiritual guidance.

And finally, Jupiter will move into Cancer on June 25, 2013, and will quickly get into trine with Neptune, Saturn, then Chiron, completing the Water circuit.  Jupiter will also oppose Pluto, and bring just enough tension into the dynamic to spur all that lazy Water to action.  Jupiter in Cancer is in its all-time favorite sign to occupy, bringing a warm, nurturing feel and encouraging growth gently, as a summer rain encourages flowers to bud and open.

How does this affect me?
If you have a lot of Water in your chart, this astrological activity should feel really good, as if the rest of the world is aligning with the flow that is natural to you.  You may find yourself experiencing luck and being noticed in ways that don’t make you feel overexposed.  If you have lazy Water habits (such as living in codependent relationships, overpowering others with your emotions or draining yourself dry to serve and nurture others), these habits may be indulged this year and you could end up with no progress.  But if you decide to live your Watery side in the best way possible (by being conscious of your feelings but not dramatic, and being intuitive without being invasive), you could find yourself at the top of the heap with very little effort.

And the really good news is that if you are starting a business this year, or having a baby, you can look forward to your “project” having oodles of good karma.  Some kinds of businesses are better suited to this than others; you can see me for a consultation if you’re ready to know more.

This time period is especially good for:

  • healers
  • artists
  • nurses and caretakers of all kinds
  • midwives, doulas, ob/gyns and those involved with birthing
  • hospice workers and those who to assist peaceful death
  • any job that requires compassion and human kindness
  • spiritual and psychic helpers
  • anyone who works with children
  • financial analysts and investors, anyone who works with debt but especially those who assist people in trouble with management of their debt, including bankruptcy lawyers
  • therapists, counselors and coaches, psychologists, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts
  • hypnotherapists
  • . . . and the list goes on.

Uranus And Pluto Topple The Great Edifice (part 2)

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Our story began with Pluto and Uranus scaling the Great Edifice—and you might want to begin there too.  Now it’s May of 2013 and they’re at it again.

Pluto and Uranus are busy at the Great Edifice, a huge monolith in the collective astral dreamscape.  Pluto is rappelling on the Edifice’s surface, searching for fault lines.  Uranus is preparing the explosives he will stuff into the fault lines Pluto finds.  The two are figuring out their strategy for bringing the Edifice down.  Human Being is watching all this, feeling a mixture of excitement and terror.  He tugs at Uranus’ arm.

Human:  Why are you doing this?
Uranus:  Good question.  I mean, look at this edifice.  It’s tall.
Pluto:  It’s shiny.
Uranus:  Damned regular.
Pluto:  Yep, not a scratch on it.  Perfectly cubic.
Uranus:  Perfectly PERFECT, you mean.
Pluto:  Right.
Both together:  Something MUST be wrong!
Human:  What do you mean?
Pluto:  There’s got to be something wrong here.  This thing is TOO shiny.  I smell a rat.
Uranus:  How like you. You’re always smelling a rat.
Pluto:  It’s not just paranoia.  Rats are everywhere.
Uranus:  In this case, for once, I totally agree there’s a rat.  I just disagree on your methods.
Pluto:  Yeah sure, but we’ve decided to work together, so how about we try to get along?
Human:  Speaking of methods, does this have to be accompanied by physical chaos?  I mean, can’t a giant structure like this change without having to crush a lot of people under its weight?
Uranus:  Only if you embrace the change that needs to happen.
Pluto:  Then it can happen gently.
Human:  Yes, but how?
Pluto:  Not my job to figure that out.
Uranus:  Not my job either!
Human:  Oh.  You’re saying human beings have to do it.
Uranus:  Good guess!
Pluto:  We’re here to do the work on the archetypal level.  We’re fomenting change inside the human heart.
Uranus:  But you human beings have to do the right thing with the breakthrough ideas we give you. . .
Pluto:  . . . and with the instincts we arouse in you.  Some of you will naturally know how to change the system without violence.
Uranus:  While others will have to blow things up really big in order to be heard.  Maybe because the authorities aren’t open to change.
Pluto:  Maybe because they are hopelessly corrupt.
Human:  So there’s no help for it—this is going to be a mess?
Pluto:  You might have to break a few eggs to make this omelet.
Uranus:  But we guarantee our results.  And—
Human:  I know where you’re going with this!  And each person has freewill about how they choose to respond to this transit, as with every other transit we experience.
Uranus:  Exactly.  So the real question is:  How gracefully can you accept change?  How gracefully can you accept new ideas?
Pluto:  How gracefully can you accept the passing away of the old and the necessity of moving on to the new?
Human:  Let me ponder that for a few months until your next pass, in November of 2013.

And so should we all.

Saturn Sextiles Pluto: Conditions for Success and Deep Change

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

We return to the Mutual Reception, where Saturn and Pluto are off in a corner, eating canapés and hammering out their agreement for how they’ll work together while they occupy each other’s signs this year.

Saturn:  This year we are in a harmonious sextile to each other and can easily come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
Pluto:  True.  It’s wonderful how two such different—and strong—personalities can align during a transit like this.  Let’s talk about how you and I can help each other best and what that means.
Saturn:  I think it comes down to conditions.  What conditions do I need you to adhere to, so I can work with you, and what do you need from me?
Pluto:  As long as things are doable and fair, I’m game.
Saturn:  Pluto, I need you to take responsibility for the results of the changes you create.  Who knows what the repercussions will be?  What matters is your integrity, and your ability to respond to those changes in a mature, adult way.
Pluto:  I can line up with that.  Saturn, I need you to be willing to go deep.  I need you to be willing to really, truly change.  I’m not talking about something superficial here, but a deep restructuring down to the very bones.  I’m talking flatten the building and begin again with a new foundation so it can be truly solid.
Saturn:  I like solid of course!
Pluto:  Yes, of course you do.  But are you willing to submit to big, mysterious changes that you won’t understand while you’re in them, in order that things may become more solid?
Saturn:  Sounds like a paradox:  change creates solidity?
Pluto:  Definitely a paradox.  How are we going to do this without becoming a pair of total control freaks?
Saturn:  I don’t know.
Pluto:  Maybe we shouldn’t try.
Saturn:  Control-freaking is rather a strong suit for both of us.  It’s one of the few things we naturally agree on.
Pluto:  Ok, so it’s going to be ok to be a control freak for the duration.  Good—that’s a relief.
Saturn:  As long as it works.
Pluto:  Yes, exactly.  And we may be fundamentally very different, but if we can’t do this together, nobody can.  During our mutual reception, all of humanity will feel the willingness to change their old, entrenched ways because we make it easy for them.  They’ll be able to make pain-free change to ancient traditions that are deep-rooted.  It’s a pretty good offer we’re making them.
Saturn:  I agree.
Pluto:  Thought you would.
Saturn:  Then I can say with confidence that anyone who is willing to—
Pluto:  —to look beneath the surface—
Saturn:  —yes, and take responsibility, be an adult, be professional, be mature and have integrity. . . will be able to—
Pluto:  —change, transform, metamorphose, destroy and rebirth—
Saturn:  —anything they want to.  No matter how entrenched.
Pluto:  No matter.
They shake hands.
Saturn:  Can I pour you a nice single malt scotch?
Pluto:  I prefer bourbon myself.
Saturn:  On the rocks?
Pluto:  You know me—cold and rocky.  You like it neat, I assume.
Saturn:  Yes, sir.
Off they go to the bar, disappearing in the crowd.

Saturn Sextiles Pluto At The (Mutual) Reception

Monday, December 24th, 2012

This transit is exact on December 26, 2012

Our scene opens at a wine and cheese reception.  Human Being arrives, along with The Astrologer and a host of deities, heroes, demigods, monsters and other fabulous beings.  Some of these are fabulous in the mythical sense, others are fabulously dressed.  We hear the tinkling of a glass being struck by a spoon and quiet fills the room.  The Astrologer steps up to a microphone on one side of the room.

The Astrologer:  Thank you for joining us tonight for this very special reception.  It’s what we astrologers call a “mutual reception.”  That’s a situation where two planets are occupying each other’s signs.  This doesn’t happen every day.  Please allow me to introduce them to you:  Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn!
Up steps Pluto, his dark, grumpy brow furrowed and his usually messy black shock of hair well-groomed.  He is wearing a tailored business suit, gun-metal gray, and looks menacingly handsome and intimidating.  Joining him is Saturn in Scorpio, a white-bearded curmudgeon in flowing magician’s robes, carrying a wand and causing a shimmer of invisible power wherever he walks.  Both acknowledge the roar of the audience.  Then they turn to each other and bow lower and lower, each striving to do more honor to the other than received.  The Astrologer interrupts before they hit their heads on the floor.
The Astrologer:  This mutual reception is very important and you may be wondering why.  Here’s why:  Every planet has a mission.  The sign it is in shows how it needs to pursue its mission in order to succeed at it.  To feed its mission, it needs food of the sign it’s in.  It gets that food from the planet that rules that sign.  In today’s case, Pluto makes Scorpio food, which Saturn needs to eat while he’s in Scorpio.  Meanwhile, Saturn makes Capricorn food, which Pluto needs while in Capricorn.  So they feed each other and both planetary missions are speeded and fulfilled.  How about you two showing the audience what this mutual reception is like?  I see you’ve dished up some fine treats.
Pluto and Saturn step up to tables that have been loaded with trays of delicious looking food.
Pluto:  I’m serving up Pluto food—yummy Pluto food.  Get your Transformational Treats here!  Fabulous yummies for your planets in Scorpio, including Intensity Stew and Pickle of Extremes (for those who like being in a pickle).  Oh and be sure to have a Magical Muffin for dessert—there’s no telling what you’ll turn into!
Saturn:  I’m serving up Saturn food—Satisfying Stability, Cute Career Creams and Delightfully Delicious Discipline.  Eat this stuff and the ambitions of all your planets in Capricorn will be well-fed.
Human Being (pipes up from the audience):  They sound good, but why would anyone want to eat them?
Saturn:  Any planet you have in Capricorn feeds off your self-discipline.  If your Saturn is helping you be more disciplined (i.e. making healthy Saturn/Capricorn food), then all your planets in Capricorn will benefit from it.  For example, let’s say you have Mercury in Capricorn.  You like concrete ideas, ideas that are useful and going somewhere.  But Mercury is inherently unfocused.  So you want to focus your mind.  Since it’s in Capricorn, feed that Mercury of yours Capricorn food—self-discipline, structure, goals, etc.—and it will respond with clearer thinking.
Human Being:  Ah—I see.  And you and Pluto are feeding each other right now, yes?
Pluto:  Exactly.  It means that while I’m in Capricorn I can do my job of transformation better when Saturn gives me Capricorn food.  Meanwhile, Saturn in my sign of Scorpio does his job of creating structure better, because I’m feeding him Scorpio food.  Because we feed each other, once we get started it’s practically a perpetual motion machine.
They are standing in the middle of the ballroom, each holding a tray of food and dishing it out into the other’s bowl.  They hold their bowls up to each other and exclaim, “Blessings! May you never hunger!” Then they chow down.
The Astrologer:  I’d just like to point out that the babies born during this sextile of yours will benefit greatly from it.  Tell the audience at home just a bit about the fine traits these babies may enjoy as adults. . .
Pluto (talking with his mouth full):  Well, they’ll be able to trust authority figures.
Saturn (carefully wiping his chin):  Which means they’ll be able to get good mentors, even while they are young.
Pluto:  Which means in turn that they’ll be able to sniff out corruption and avoid it—
Saturn:  Enabling them to more powerfully climb the ladder of success—
Pluto:  And essentially to be unstoppable without being ruthless—
Saturn:  There will be no hardship they won’t be able to overcome—
Pluto:  They will learn to trust life and themselves—
Saturn:  —without having to harden themselves, but just having good, healthy boundaries.
The Astrologer:  That’s great stuff, but there’s more.  Not only are these two in mutual reception, but they are also in a sextile with each other.  This means they are traveling about 60 degrees apart, one-sixth of the zodiac.  It means they are in agreement with each other and ready to have fun together.
Saturn:  I’d say we are in a harmonious conversation.
Pluto:  Yes, exactly—mutually curious about and pleasantly stimulated by each other.  Our twin agendas of achievement and transformation are working together fairly smoothly.
Saturn:  Even though I mostly enjoy building, while I’m in Scorpio I see how building can only happen as part of a cycle that includes death and destruction.
Pluto:  And while I’m in Capricorn I see that corruption must be purged so that forward movement can happen.
Saturn:  And power must be wielded carefully—
Pluto:  —and wisely!
Saturn:  Oh, we certainly agree on that!
The Astrologer:  Let’s move on to the eating part, where everybody can enjoy themselves.
Saturn and Pluto go back to munching happily on all the food while the audience tucks in.

This harmonious sextile relationship between Saturn and Pluto lasts from December of 2012 to September of 2013. More about it here:

Uranus and Pluto Topple The Great Edifice (Part 1)

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Uranus and Pluto are involved in a momentous, years-long square in the sky right now.  This is a really big deal and I want to tell you why.

Every pair of planets in the sky has a cycle they go through together, like the cycle of the Sun and Moon that makes the Moon phases we are familiar with.  When the Sun and Moon are conjunct, the Moon appears dark.  We call this a new Moon and it’s the beginning of a month-long cycle.  As the Moon travels on through the zodiac, the Sun also moves forward a bit, and after about a week, they form a 90-degree angle in the sky.  That’s called a square and the Moon appears half-full because the Sun’s light is illuminating it from that 90-degree angle, so we see the half of it that’s nearest the Sun.  Have you ever wondered why a “first quarter” Moon appears half-full?  This is why.

The Sun and Moon then continue travelling until they are exactly opposite each other in the sky (an ‘opposition’).  This is when the Moon appears full, because it’s on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun and we see the sunlight coming from behind us to illuminate its whole face.  After the Full Moon comes the Third Quarter Moon, which again appears half-full and is another 90-degree angle between Sun and Moon, a square.  Finally, yet another week later (for a total of 4 weeks or about a month), the Moon catches up with the Sun and is again new, ending the old cycle and starting another.

Uranus and Pluto are doing this dance also, except their time-frame is much, much larger.  This square is the first time they’ve met up again in the sky since their conjunction (or ‘new’ phase) in the middle of the 1960’s.  That conjunction of Uranus and Pluto was the 1960’s—it defined the times.  It brought the previous, hundreds-of-years-long cycle to a close and ushered in a new era.  Uranus rules revolution and Pluto rules psychological change—these two principles were blended throughout the sixties.  There was tremendous social change, racial integration, draft evasion, encounter groups were invented, hemlines went up, and young people listened to music that terrified their elders.  And I haven’t even mentioned the sexual revolution.  That’s Sexual (Pluto) Revolution (Uranus).

So right now, Uranus and Pluto are in their First Quarter square.  This stressful square lasts from 2012 to March of 2015.  During these several years it will peak in its intensity several times.  When the peaks happen, I’ll try to write blogposts that may give you a feel for this thing and it’s enormity.  Unless I’m too busy experiencing it in my own life, of course.  The following script shows how it might feel to us here on Earth.

Human Being has wandered from his sleeping body and is roaming the great astral plain.  There he spots a sort of dark block, far away at the horizon.  He turns towards it and, as often happens in dreams, suddenly he is standing next to it.  The edifice is black, shiny, massive, monumental, a tower as huge as an Egyptian pyramid.  Human cranes his neck but cannot see the top, which reaches into the sky and blots out the stars.  On its face climbs a small figure, hanging from a cord.  The figure quickly rappels down the face and greets Human.  It is Pluto, dressed in black and masked, like a ninja.  He is almost impossible to see against the dark, deep black of the structure behind him.

Pluto:  What are you doing here?
Human (shrugs):  I’m one of those who can see things others can’t. (points at the edifice) What is it?
Pluto:  I don’t know, because I only see the archetypal.  What we’re looking at is the dream-world image of the thing.  The thing behind the thing.  It’s an edifice, a great big one.  I don’t know how it actually manifests in the physical world.  Maybe it’s a government.  Maybe it’s a corporation.  It’s an institution of some kind, that’s for sure.
Human:  Why are you climbing on it?
Pluto:  I’m looking for fault lines.
Human: What will you do when you find them?
Pluto:  I’ll press on them until they break open. Then this structure will have to change.
Human:  That makes me nervous.  And why are you dressed up like a ninja?
Pluto (proudly):  I look like a character from Mission Impossible.  No—I look like James Bond!
Human:  But you’re a god!  Aren’t you beyond that?
Pluto:  Yeah, sure I’m a god.  But I still like looking like James Bond.
Another figure appears at the bottom of the building.
Human:  Who’s that?
Pluto cranes his neck to see.
Pluto:  Oh that’s Uranus.  Who invited him to the party?
Uranus is wearing a fiery orange coat. He’s concealing something inside of it.
Pluto:  Hey, Captain Obvious!  Go away.  Can’t you see that if this tower is to come down, it has to be done by stealth?
Uranus:  Ridiculous.  If true change is to occur, everyone has to see it happen, or else it won’t stick.  Things will just go back to the way they were.
Pluto:  Absurd.  I’m going for nothing less than a full-on, cellular-level metamorphosis.  That can only happen in darkness.  Going to transform this puppy into something really useful.
Human:  Uh, do you know what that useful thing is yet?
Pluto:  Heck no!
Uranus:  I have a plan too.
Pluto:  Of course.  What is it?
Uranus:  I plan to break this thing down into its tiniest pieces, then reform them into something better, something bigger, something more all-inclusive.
Pluto:  Perhaps we should work together then.
Uranus:  Sounds good—how about you find the fault-lines and I’ll plug them with the explosives I brought.  Then we’ll blow the thing open and search the rubble for whatever meaningful endures.
Human:  Um, guys—have you thought about what this structure is?
Pluto:  All I care about is that it’s decrepit, decaying, dying and I must destroy it.
Uranus:  All I care about is that it’s forgotten how to remain flexible and I must replace it with something more progressive.
Human:  Have you thought about what humans will do without this structure while it finds its new shape?
Uranus and Pluto look at each other in delight.
Uranus:  Probably lots of chaos, don’t you figure?
Pluto:  Disorder, change, disruption.
Uranus:  Sounds good to me!
And back to work they go.

If you think this story bears some resemblance to the events of September 11, 2001, you would be right.  But that’s not why I wrote it this way.  It’s just a metaphor, not a prediction.  The edifice represents institutions of all kinds, and the social structures behind the physical buildings.

What changes will occur as Uranus and Pluto do their work?  I don’t know, but chances are good we will look back at this period as interesting times.

The story continues here.

Underworld Journey Ends For The Year

Friday, September 14th, 2012

Our old friend Pluto turns direct again on Monday, September 17, and he’s bringing to a close this year’s underworld journey by showing up, right on schedule, to take out the garbage.  Pluto has traveled several degrees backwards and today turns his face forwards again.  He will now retrace forwards the same steps he made backwards during the last few months, bringing a death-and-rebirth experience for everyone who is having a Pluto transit this year.

Chiron and Pluto at the Alchemical Pool of Healing

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

We find Chiron and Pluto in a dark cave, by an underground pool that glows with a magical light.  Chiron appears as a gentle, matronly woman with a kind face, dressed in green, flowing robes.  Pluto is dressed in flowing magenta robes and is wearing a fond, open expression that softens his harsh, hawk-like features.  They are beside the pool, stirring it with long staffs, occasionally tasting its contents with small spoons they carry in their pockets.

Pluto (putting his spoon away in a pocket):  That’s a very good blend, if I do say so myself.
Chiron:  Yes, this should work nicely.  Oh look, here comes the next one.
A Human Being, eyes closed and deeply asleep, shambles into the chamber.
Pluto:  I’ve got this one.
Pluto takes Human Being by the arm and guides him to stone steps that lead down into the pool.  When he’s fully immersed, Pluto seats him on a stone bench built into the pool that brings the water just to his neck.
Human Being (sighing deeply):  I didn’t know this was possible.
Chiron (whispering to Pluto):  They always say that.
Pluto:  Yeah, they just don’t get that change is possible.  Do you know that’s one of the biggest questions humans go around asking themselves and each other?
Chiron:  Which question?
Pluto:  “Is it possible to change, really change in a deep way.”  They habitually doubt it.  It’s like an epidemic down there on Earth.
Chiron:  They also doubt that it can be done without pain, and they don’t believe trauma and wounding can really heal completely.
Pluto:  It makes me sad.  My business is change—
Chiron:  —Well do I know it!
Pluto:  —and it’s frustrating to do all my good work in the world and have it go unseen and unappreciated.
Chiron:  Humans are mere mortals.  They have such tiny life-spans.  Your 250-year cycles are too long for them to make use of.  They can barely make use of my 50-year cycles.  They don’t have time to come to understand themselves through your long-term alchemical process of change.  At least they try.
Pluto:  They die trying.
Human Being stirs, murmurs, his eyelids flutter.
Chiron (grabbing Pluto’s sleeve):  Hey, I think something unusual is happening!
Human Being wakes up and looks around himself in alarm.
Human:  Where am I?
Chiron (takes his hand calmly):  You’re in the Alchemical Pool of Healing.  It’s going to be all right.  You’re only changing.
Human (fearfully):  I’m changing?!
Pluto:  Yes, for the better.  And it won’t hurt.  You could have slept through it.
Human:  Can I do that while awake?
Chiron:  You are one of the unusual ones.
Pluto:  Yes, but most people don’t want to.  Even if it doesn’t hurt.
Chiron:  Most people don’t want to change at all, anyway, anyhow.
Human:  I do.  I’m ready.  Please tell me what I can do to help it along.
Pluto and Chiron look at each other in surprise, then back at Human Being.
Pluto:  Well, ok.  It begins with a full-being scrubdown.  It happens on all levels—emotional, physical, mental and spiritual.  It goes way deeper than words.  I’m in charge of that part.
Chiron:  You have to trust and be vulnerable for that.
Human:  No kidding!
Pluto:  It’s about purging and letting go of the old.
Chiron:  You have to find the old thing that’s still stuck today.  That’s my department.
Human:  How do I do that?
Chiron:  It’s usually disguised as something painful that’s happening right now, a sort of trigger-point.
Pluto:  You’ll know because it’s a place in your life where you feel like a victim, where you haven’t taken your power back.
Chiron:  Then you have to get clear on which aspects of the experience are current and which are old, crusty grime from your past.
Pluto:  Then you have to remove that old grime.
Chiron:  —but gently!
Pluto:  —and you have to really let it go, along with resentment about it.  You can’t afford to continue holding onto resentment, entitlement or victimhood.  These are the final things that hold you back when you try to grow your power and initiative.
Chiron:  When you let it go, the new thing that’s bothering you in the present—the thing that triggered you and set you off—will go with it.
Pluto:  Then you have to practice not passing it on to someone who reminds you of yourself.
Chiron:  True.
They pause to stir the pool a little, then tuck their staffs into a notch at the side of the pool.
Pluto:  A human being is a library of experience.  You can take an old book off the shelf anytime.  You call this memory; we call it the eternal Now because we know there is no difference.  The past, present and future are all one thing wrapped up together, written in your heart and in your very cells.  Your body remembers—ask it.
Chiron:  To survive, you’ve had to press down the pain.  Now it’s hardened—is it dross or diamond?  It’s up to you to recover it and find out.
Pluto:  I see we’ve made you think, but don’t think too long—take action.
Chiron:  Yes, take action towards your own healing, because we don’t usually operate as gently as this. If we have to come back and do surgery, you won’t like that very much.
Pluto:  Are you sure you want to be awake for this?
Human Being climbs out of the pool and puts on a robe that’s lying there.
Human:  Yes.  I’m ready to go back to my life and do the work.
Chiron:  Then you have our blessing.
Pluto and Chiron touch Human’s forehead, and show him the way back to his everyday life.
